Alumni

Leaders Give Challenge

At MIT Sloan, you had the opportunity to develop as a principled, innovative leader and prepare to transform the organizations you join, the communities to which you belong, and the world we all share. Alumni who graduated before you helped to make your experiences possible through their philanthropy. The tradition of alumni paying it forward to current students continues today through the MIT Sloan Annual Fund.

Judy Lewent, SM ’72, chair of the MIT Sloan Americas Executive Board, and her husband, Mark Shapiro, are long-time philanthropic leaders within our school’s community. This year, they have offered a generous challenge to encourage 500 others to join them in making Dean’s Circle-level gifts through the MIT Sloan Annual Fund.

2022–2023 Challenge Results

  • 48%

  • $4M

Contributed through the MIT Sloan Annual Fund by Dean's Circle Donors

Last year, 442 donor households joined the Dean’s Circle, including 214 households who contributed at the levels above Investors. Collectively, these philanthropic leaders provided $4 million (85%) of the $4.8 million in MIT Sloan Annual Fund gifts that were immediately invested in MIT Sloan’s students and faculty. Here are some examples of these donors’ meaningful impact:

  • One Dean’s Circle Leader who gave $25,000 supported a professor through the Junior Faculty Research Assistance Program.
  • One Dean’s Circle Director who gave $10,000 funded an Action Learning project.
  • One Dean’s Circle Partner who gave $5,000 supported a student club C-Function.
  • One Dean’s Circle Investor who gave $2,500 provided 12 hours of career coaching to members of the Class of 2023.
  • Four Dean’s Circle Investors who each gave $2,500 provided five student clubs with funding.

This year, your impact can be even greater. Please make your Dean’s Circle gift today; you will join with other philanthropic leaders with an aim to release the full $200,000 by June 30.

The MIT Sloan community, including Dean Schmittlein and other academic and administrative leaders, looks forward to recognizing you among its philanthropic leaders this year.
